Grand Rapids Gyms Reopening: Let's Talk Safety
Gyms in Michigan have reopened for business as of September 9th, and they are strictly following health guidelines made by officials. Some gyms are going beyond the basics and regulating their members' safety to the best of their abilities by implementing further steps to make sure members can workout without a worry. Here are some of the most popular gyms in Grand Rapids that are taking health precautions to the next level.
Planet Fitness has reopened their doors to members who are eager to return to their familiar spots on the treadmill. While allowing a limited number of gym-goers in at a time, Planet Fitness has also stepped up their cleaning procedures to allow everyone a safe and clean workout environment. This Judgement Free Zone has turned into a Covid Free Zone and let’s look into why.
Not only has Planet Fitness increased their cleaning routines while using effective disinfectants, they have kept the cleaning stations stocked and hand sanitizers full for members to disinfect after their workouts. To further their safety measures, every employee must wear a mask, gloves and undergo frequent temperature checks while members are strictly enforced to wear masks at all times to regulate everyone's safety while in the gym.
A new feature Planet Fitness introduced to combat germs is a touch-less check-in using your smartphone that replaces the need to use your physical member card. While on your phone, you can also peak at how many people are in your gym with their Crowd Meter. This new feature is perfect in choosing a low trafficked time to workout so you can be guaranteed your spot on a stair climber.
Snap Fitness has also been on the radar in Grand Rapids with taking precautionary steps toward a clean and safe workout environment. With numerous locations scattered across the Grand Rapids area, members are flooding back into Snap Fitness facilities to get their workout in.
Following along with Planet Fitness in upping their cleaning regimen and spacing out equipment for safe workout zones, Snap Fitness has also brought back their personal training. Personal training is available for members in person and virtual sessions. Trainers are instructed to make sure all equipment used has been cleansed prior to and after use to maintain a clean environment.
Grand Rapids YMCA has been taking slow steps towards reopening every amenity they offer. Following the governor’s orders strictly. They have created a phase system where more amenities will become available as time continues. The Grand Rapids YMCA is currently in their phase 2 stage where free weights, the fitness floor, track and restrooms have all been opened with spacing restrictions, mask requirements and personal disinfecting of used equipment being enforced.
Even though many areas have opened, locker rooms still stay closed and gym members must bring their own water bottle, mat, mask, and towel. If you’re ready to go back, there is one more step before entering: everyone who enters will be subjected to a temperature check and a health screening to further the YMCA’s dedication to their members’ and employees’ safety.
Home workouts are great if you don’t want to go to the gym and wear a mask while breaking a sweat. It is the perfect excuse to go outside and get fresh air. Take your furry friend on a walk, hike, run. Explore some parks and trails. Miss the bike in the gym? Take yours out for a spin. If outside isn’t for you, YouTube is great for finding that at-home-workout that suits your space, fitness level, and available equipment. Home workouts can be just as effective as going to a gym, and you’ll save money in the process.
