Grand Rapids Brewery Series: Brewery Vivant
Brewery Vivant located on Cherry Street in Uptown Grand Rapids has a lot going for it. Not only is it uniquely located, in an old funeral home, with stained glass windows and pitched ceilings! But the beer is angelic, food is spiritual, and their dedication to sustainability is amazing!
Have you ever walked into a brewery and have seen a bar stationed in front of a stained glass window? Or have you ever seen pitched ceilings decorated with timber tresses and ornate dangling lanterns? Me neither. That’s why Brewery Vivant is a truly unique and wonderful experience any GR resident or visitor should experience firsthand!
Brewery Vivant offers an abundance of their brewed beverages from IPA’s, sour ales, lagers, and fruity ales to fit the needs of any beer lover, hoppy loving or not. A favorite is Farmer’s Hand, but to be festive this Fall they also offer Pumpkin Tart, a pumpkin sour beer! At Brewery Vivant you know they are dedicated to being unique and one-of-a-kind! And you can tell they pull this off perfectly with every aspect of their brewery! Their atmosphere is refreshing, beer is exceptional, and their food is savory and scrumptious pairing perfectly with any beer of choice.
Poutine is their signature dish, I personally think. Fries? Yes. Gravy? Extra please. Cheese curds? Load ‘em up! Coddled egg? Yes, please get in my stomach. This is the best food a brewery can offer. It’s greasy, savory, hot, and filling. How can you be disappointed? You can’t.
The food, beer, and atmosphere are only the tip of the iceberg. Brewery Vivant is the 4th certified B-Corporation (B-Corps) in West Michigan. This means that B-Corps are for-profit companies certified by the B Lab to meet rigorous standards of social and environmental performance, accountability, and transparency. This being similar to a LEED certification like Fair Trade Coffee but tends to look at the entire business not just one aspect. Brewery Vivant also as the LEED certification. This makes it so they use less water and energy and reduce greenhouse gas emissions, but also save money at the same time.
It’s great to go out to eat and enjoy a beer at a brewery that likes to be environmentally conscious. It’s a game changer when you understand the logistics of a brewery and what it does to not only serve up a great beer and atmosphere, but also know how involved they are with the community and global issues. Brewery Vivant’s motto takes a twist on “Be the Change” and states “BEER the Change!” What a perfect motto.
