Cozy Activities This Fall Season

With colorful leaves falling all around us it is evident that Michigan has changed seasons and it is not looking back. Let’s pack away our shorts and sandals because fall has arrived in Michigan and there are many fun ways I like to transition from those hot summer days into chilly autumn. Since our spring and summer were hindered by COVID-19, that doesn’t mean we should hold back for fall. Outside fall activities are in abundance and if it’s too chilly outside, there are many ways I like to bring fall inside with a few quick and easy projects.

I love being outside in the fall. It’s not too hot where we will sweat as we walk out our door, but it isn’t cold enough to pull out our winter jacket. One staple for fall that’s on my agenda this year is apple and pumpkin picking. Bring your basket, friends and family because the orchards are at their harvest and the trees and fields are ready for us to go pick some sweet treats and bring home our pumpkins for carving this October. Many orchards also have corn mazes that’s perfect for that fall day with friends! Taking it one step further, before I leave I grab a tasty donut and apple cider to start my fall off cozy.

As I venture outside this fall, I also enjoy breathing in that crisp fall air with a hike on one of Michigan’s many trails it has to offer. Walking through the woods while leaves tumble down softly from above is like walking in a fall wonderland. I like to bring my furry friend with me to enjoy the cool autumn air as leaves crunch under our feet. It’s perfect to get a little exercise while having fun with your pet!

After your hike, time to decorate your home! If you’re feeling festive and want to share it with your neighbors, decorate your porch with hay bales, pumpkins, a scarecrow, leaf garlands, seasonal mums and even fairy lights to create a statement. If decorating outside isn’t your thing, why not celebrate fall inside with easy fall decorations? You can hang a wreath inside your front door and scatter real or fake pumpkins around your house. Have a fireplace mantel? Lay across a fall garland and use fall scented candles to add variety. While you're in the living room, replace your couch pillows with festive fall ones. These are simple ways to add fall touches without cluttering your home or breaking the bank.

While being active during fall is always a plus, I like to wind down my days with cozy alternatives. With the fall weather being unpredictable, I always have a good book to curl up with and a warm drink always makes any activity in the fall more cozy. If you’re feeling like spending your day in the kitchen, why not touch up on your baking skills with different pies. Pie is a fall staple and it’s the perfect time to learn how to bake a new flavor to share with your family before the holidays roll around. You’ll be making something tasty while also making your home smell delicious. At the end of the night, when you’re ready to relax with a slice of homemade pie, turn on your favorite Halloween movie to rewatch!

Fall is great for the adventurous who wants to spend their last days outside before the snow falls or the homebodies who want to enjoy the fall season inside with their favorite tv show and a warm cup of hot chocolate.
