Beach and Park Etiquette and Social Distancing: How You Can Feel Safe

COVID-19 has changed the way people live everyday life, and it has changed summer. Most summer activities and events have been canceled. However, going to parks and beaches are still allowed. Here is a list of ways to uphold etiquette while going to parks and beaches this summer, so you are able to feel comfortable and safe.

For the Beach:

  • Staying 6ft away from everyone you do not live with is one of the best ways to keep yourself safe, both in and out of the water

  • Before you leave, check for any COVID-19 symptoms such as: fever, chills, dry cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, sore throat or body aches. Check the CDC guideline for more information.

  • Bring hand sanitizer with you. Apply if you need to use a public restroom, or if you needed to come in contact with a person you did not come with

  • Bring a mask with you. If you need to be less than 6ft away from people you did not come with, wearing a mask will make it safer.

  • Stay away from the beaches that are super busy, avoiding large gatherings ensures better safety.

For the Park:

  • Stay 6ft away from everyone you do not live with. This may be hard for kids who are running around on a playground, so bring a mask just in case.

  • Before you leave, check for any COVID-19 symptoms such as: fever, chills, dry cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, sore throat or body aches. Check the CDC guideline for more information.

  • Bring hand sanitizer with you, and apply often, especially kids if you brought them.

  • If you are going to a park with a playground with kids, go over rules with them such as: keep your hands out of your mouth, practice social distancing, and to check in for hand sanitizer breaks.

  • Stay away from the playgrounds or parks that are super busy, avoiding large gatherings ensures better safety.

There are still ways to do normal summer activities in a safe way. Going over beach and park etiquette is important for the safety of yourself and others. Have a great rest of your summer!
