DIY Fabulous Fireplaces

With summer ending and colder weather ahead, your fireplace is soon to once again become one of the most-loved items in your home. Not only is your fireplace a center of warmth in your home, but it is also the focal point of your living room. Give your fireplaces the update it deserves this fall. Changing your fireplace can update the look of your entire living room.

The first step is to identify what aspects of your fireplace you want to replace, and what can simply be updated. Can your surround be painted, or is it outdated tile that you would like to replace? Are you happy with the basic design of your mantle or are you looking to replace it? Come up with a design for your fireplace that best suites your aesthetic.

If you would like to update your fireplace surround add to face and the surround. These can be found at your local home improvement store, starting at under $1. Home improvement stores sell intricate tiles that are easy to install at home. If you have a brick surround consider painting it to make it look new.

Paint these to match or add an accent on your wall by painting it the same color of your walls. Adding a few small details can add dimension to your fireplace.

The brass finishing's found on many fireplaces can make it seem outdated. Simply paint your old brass screen with heat proof paint to make it look like new. Before you update your surround simply cover the glass before painting to make it look like new.
